Raytheon Australia has signed a contract with Pacific Defense to provide electronic warfare (EW) systems for the Australian military’s Bushmaster infantry vehicles.

Pacific Defense’s EW system is chassis-based, comprising many plug-in cards. It includes mission software with electronic attack jamming and wideband software-defined radios.

The firm will deliver platforms interoperable with other EW systems currently in use with the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Australian Navy, and other members of the Five Eyes alliance, a partnership of Australia, the US, the UK, New Zealand, and Canada.

The Australian Government approved the 75-million-Australian-dollar ($51.6 million) contract in July.

CMOSS and SOSA Standards

Pacific Defense developed its EW systems in compliance with the C5ISR Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS) and The Open Group’s Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) standards, which the US Department of Defense also follows.

Platforms built at CMOSS and SOSA standards can update their hardware and software rapidly and are compatible with coalition systems in the US and Australian militaries.

“Our industry-leading focus on CMOSS mission system integration, along with modular plug-in card and software development, has positioned us to deliver on the Land 555 mission requirement,” Pacific Defense Vice President Frank Pietryka said.
