The US State Department has approved the possible sale of C-17 aircraft sustainment supplies and services to the United Arab Emirates at an estimated cost of $980.4 million.

Included are the C-17 Virtual Fleet for Total System Sustainment and Material Improvement Program, Joint Mission Planning System software, Electronic Warfare protection, engine support, spare parts, and logistics.

Boeing, which exclusively produces the C-17, was selected as the principal contractor.

The deal will require the deployment of 12 US government or contractor representatives to the UAE during the implementation of the purchase.

“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region,” according to a statement from the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency. “There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.”

The actual cost of the sale may vary depending on budget authorities, agreements, and final requirements.
