The Indian Army has issued a tender to local defense firms for 30,000 night sights for its US-made rifles.

The sights will be installed on the country’s American SiG Sauer assault rifles to support soldiers patrolling its borders with China and Pakistan.

The new device must reportedly have an adjustable illuminated Bullet Drop Compensator reticle pattern to enable target detection up to 600 meters (1,968 feet).

It must also come with accessories such as batteries, a lens cover, an eye guard, a cleaning kit, and battery pack charger.

The Indian Army has also said that the night sights should last 10 years and be manufactured with at least 50 percent indigenous materials.

Interested defense firms are required to submit their pitches by September 27.

Once selected, the vendor will be responsible for training Indian soldiers on the proper use of the night sights for SiG Sauer rifles.
