Tunisia is acquiring eight military training aircraft from the US to modernize its fleet and provide improved training to its pilots.

The US government has reportedly signed an agreement with Textron Aviation Defense to manufacture and deliver high-performance training aircraft to the North African nation.

A considerable amount of the deal will be financed through an American grant, with the remainder paid by the government of Tunisia.

Deliveries are expected to begin in March 2023 and will be completed by 2026.

The US has not disclosed additional details regarding the value of the agreement or the type of military training aircraft it will supply to Tunisia.

However, Textron Aviation Defense is a known manufacturer of the T-6C Texan II next-generation military flight trainer aircraft.

The aircraft offers synthetic air-to-ground and air-to-air training solutions and supports simulated combat training tasks.

Powered by Pratt & Whitney PT6A-68 turboprop engines, the trainer can fly at a maximum speed of 586 kilometers (364 miles) per hour.
