BAE Systems has launched LiteWave, a light and compact Head-Up Display (HUD) for use in military and commercial aircraft.

The HUD, placed above a pilot’s head, allows the carrier to maintain situational awareness, even during adverse conditions and at any time of the day.

It can be adjusted to suit any flying position and displays crucial information, such as direction, altitude, and speed, directly in the pilot’s line of sight.

“LiteWave can be fitted into virtually any cockpit in the world,” BEA’s director of HUD product Lee Tomlinson said in a statement.

“Our engineers have created a digital display that is smaller, lighter, and uses less power than any other Head-Up Display. It has the potential to revolutionize the market and make HUD technology far more accessible.”

LiteWave is manufactured at BAE Systems’ center in Rochester, UK, which has innovated and manufactured more than 15,000 cockpit displays. It is now undergoing flight tests for sale to customers.

LiteWave, one of the most advanced cockpit visuals, is 70 percent smaller and lighter than comparable systems.

Its simpler design, easy installation, and adjustment make it eligible for limited cockpit space.

BAE Systems’ HUDs are currently in service in more than 50 different types of military jets including the Eurofighter Typhoon, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and F-22 Raptor.

The company supplies HUDs to more than 50 nations.
