British surveillance solutions manufacturer Blighter has clinched a contract from a northern European NATO customer to develop a tactical radar that can be mounted on an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV).

To be used for border security, the B422 180-degree ground surveillance e-scanning radar will be fitted to a six-wheeled UGV to provide rapidly deployable threat detection.

It is designed to provide long-range ground surveillance to detect moving vehicles and individuals at a maximum of 32 kilometers (19.8 miles).

The radar features a “very wide” vertical elevation beam that allows for simultaneous detection of near and distant targets with a low rate of false alarms.

The B422 radar will be augmented by electro-optical systems that provide full-spectrum approach detecting and tracking.

“We are pleased to have been awarded this contract, which exemplifies our expertise in providing integrated threat detection for armored vehicles,” Blighter chief executive officer Angus Hone said.

“This contract once again demonstrates our status as a trusted supplier of best-in-class e-scanning tactical radars to increase safety and security, not only in Europe, but throughout the world.”
