The US Army’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (3rd Infantry Division) has completed field-level maintenance and training on the modernized M2A4 Bradley fighting vehicle.

The upgrade, which took nearly a decade to complete, enhances the vehicle’s mobility and power generation capabilities. It also improves the Bradley’s speed, performance, and power in the turret.

The modernization also allows easy integration of future technologies.

According to Brig. Gen. Glenn Dean, the new Bradley variant will ensure that the platform maintains “combat relevance now and for decades to come” as the US Army awaits the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV).

The new milestone makes the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team the first unit to be equipped with the upgraded military vehicles.

‘Increased Lethality’

The upgrade not only addresses survivability issues but increases its lethality.

Lt. Col. Mario Iglesias said that the modernization of the Bradley also involves “a holistic plan” to produce, deliver, and train units to operate and maintain the new vehicles.

According to master gunner Nicholas Wallace, adding the commander’s independent viewer to the new Bradley variant dramatically increases the situational awareness of military personnel operating the vehicle.

The US Army plans to continue providing field units with the modernized variant to support warfighting missions until the new OMFV is produced.
