The Israeli Ministry of Defense has awarded BIRD Aerosystems a contract to demonstrate a defense system prototype to protect ground troops and sensitive installations from a range of threats, including anti-tank guided missiles.
The system’s radar detects and verifies the threat and guides its countermeasure component for interception.
It is based on the BIRD SPREOS system’s radar that confirms and tracks the threat “while analyzing its unique characteristics (velocity, distance, position, and radar cross-section) to enable the most effective jamming response.”
At Advanced Stages of Development
The unnamed defense system is at advanced stages of development, and the Herzliya-based airborne missile protection systems developer is expected to demonstrate it this year.
“As an expert in the field of Doppler Radar technology, BIRD is constantly investing in the research and development of new solutions and technologies to provide our customers smart and effective protection against missile threats,” said Ronen Factor, Co-Chief Executive Officer and founder at BIRD Aerosystems.
“Always growing and expanding our innovative technology to new fields and solutions, we are honored to be chosen by the Israeli Ministry of Defense and MAFAT (the Defense Ministry’s Directorate of Research and Development) for this project, and are confident that our unique technology will provide its added value in further fields and arenas.”
