South Korea’s STX Engine is collaborating with German defense firm Vincorion to develop a hybrid engine system for next-generation combat vehicles.
The military and marine diesel engine manufacturer said that the hybrid engine will improve the combat viability of military vehicles, increasing their operational scope.
The company will also integrate engine starters and generators mounted on land combat vehicles.
Additionally, a data collection sensor will provide real-time engine condition monitoring, providing greater efficiency.
“In keeping with the fourth industrial revolution, it is essential to develop a hybrid diesel engine for defense business,” STX Engine chief executive Park Ki-Moon said.
Last year, the STX Engine was selected to localize the production of the Hanwa K-9 self-propelled howitzer’s diesel engine, aiming to meet the platform’s demanding operational requirements.
