Raytheon and Lockheed Martin have been awarded a $19 million contract for Javelin Weapon System support services.

The maintenance work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona, and will be completed by February 2023.

About the Javelin

Jointly developed by Raytheon Missiles & Defense and Lockheed Martin, the Javelin is a versatile, anti-tank guided munition that can be carried and launched by a single person.

Offering high precision, it can be used against a variety of targets, including armored vehicles, bunkers, and caves. The weapon’s “fire-and-forget” system automatically guides the missile to the target, allowing the gunner to take cover and avoid return fire.

Deployed with the US Army, Marine Corps, and international customers, it has been used in Iraq and Afghanistan in more than 5,000 engagements.

The system is expected to be viable until 2050.

It can be deployed and fired from many platforms and used in all kinds of weather. The missile can also be fired from a remote launcher or deployed on an unmanned ground vehicle.
