Russian authorities have granted the Kalashnikov Group permission to export its KUB-E kamikaze drone.

“The Kalashnikov Group, together with Rosoboronexport, is ready to start promoting the KUB [unmanned aerial vehicle] on the international market,” the state-run manufacturer said in a statement. “It should be noted that this drone already has a successful experience of combat use, confirmed in real conditions.”

In December, Russia completed testing on the drone after successful strikes against targets in Idlib, Syria. The Russian Army is likely to receive its first batch this year.

The aerial vehicle was first displayed at the IDEX-2019 international exhibition in Abu Dhabi, generating significant interest from international military delegations.

The UAV was developed by ZALA Aero, part of the Kalashnikov Group.

‘Small and Silent’

Small and silent due to its electric engine, the aerial vehicle can carry a payload of up to 3 kilograms (6.5 pounds). It can also slip under traditional air defense radar and has over 30 minutes of flight time.

The UAV can fly undetected towards an enemy ship or other water, air, or land targets. The company has also created a special launcher for up to 15 drones at the same time.

Capable of conducting strikes against infrastructure facilities and lightly-armored targets, the drone can reach speeds up to 130 kilometers (81 miles) per hour and be operated from high-speed boats or special-purpose ships.
