Raytheon Elcan and Leonardo Germany will deliver 107,929 ELCAN SpecterDR 1-4x rifle sights to the German armed forces as their main combat sight.
The combined reflex and telescopic sight allows a single sight view for close-up or far away targets, featuring “a bullet-drop compensator, etched reticle and a Picatinny/STANAG rail integrated into the housing with an ambidextrous, easy-to-use, throw lever to switch instantly between magnifications” from a 4x magnified sight to a 1x CQB (Close Quarters Battle) sight.
According to the developers, the sight enables the shooter to immediately switch from one magnification to another “without having to fine-tune or adjust focus or correct head position” and provides “extended eye relief and both-eyes-open capability so a user can react to changing conditions.”
Inbuilt Laser Filter
In 1x mode, the sight reportedly offers the largest field of view in its category, while in 4x mode, it provides “a generous field of view.” Moreover, its inbuilt laser filter protects the soldier from harmful laser frequencies.
Rifle sights mission area lead for Raytheon ELCAN, Mike Lewis, stated that “the Specter DR dual-role sight is Canadian technology and battle-proven with forces across NATO.”
“The variable magnification and durability of the Specter is a great advantage for the German Armed Forces.”
