The Pakistani Navy successfully demonstrated its Ground Based Air Defense (GBAD) surface-to-air missiles in a live-fire test in the port city of Karachi last week.
The joint exercise, carried out by the country’s air defense units and navy, showcased the combat readiness of the armed forces.
A spokesperson of the Pakistan Navy said that the missiles were successful in hitting their targets.
Video of the live-fire exercise showed the missiles being fired from the ground, tracking the target and destroying it, followed by debris and flames in the air.
On the occasion, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammed Amjad Khan Niazi was briefed about the navy’s operational capabilities, ongoing developments, and the induction of surface-to-air missiles.
Admiral Niazi expressed satisfaction over the navy’s operational readiness. He later visited the SEAL Battalion Headquarters where Special Services Groups put on a display of firepower in tactical drills.
Pakistan Cuts Hangar of Fifth Hangor Submarine
The navy earlier held a ceremonial “steel-cutting” to begin work on its fifth Hangor-class submarine, the first to be built indigenously in Pakistan, at the Karachi shipyard.
The fifth Hangor-class submarine is part of an agreement with China for eight submarines that are capable of attacking several targets simultaneously.
Pakistan bought the eight submarines from China in 2015. Pakistan is set to manufacture four of the eight vessels, while China will supply the rest.
The first of the submarines, constructed in China, is expected to arrive in Pakistan by next year. Meanwhile, the construction of the four submarines in Karachi is expected to be complete by 2028.
