The US Navy has awarded Raytheon Technologies a $71.4 million contract to upgrade sensor hardware and software for its Super Hornet and Growler aircraft.

The company will modernize sensor instrumentation and interfaces for the anti-surface warfare technical baseline of the F/A-18 and EA-18G fleets.

Raytheon will also identify and report to the US Navy any anomaly found in F/A-18 software blocks through its Built-in Test Stability System.

Work for the contract is expected to be complete by February 2024. In 2019, the defense firm also secured an $88.4 million contract to incorporate tactical capability enhancements into the F/A-18 and EA-18G.

Additional Contracts

Earlier this month, Raytheon won a $273.4 million contract to expand support services for a new US Navy radar system capable of detecting hostile aircraft and missile threats.

As part of the agreement, the company will provide laboratory generator support for the US Navy’s air and missile defense radar and help produce and integrate the enterprise air surveillance radar.

The aerospace firm also secured a $63.1 million deal to provide AN/APG-79(V)4 active electronically scanned array airborne radar systems to modernize US Marine Corps F/A-18C/D combat aircraft.

Initially designed for the Boeing F/A-18E/F and EA-18G Growler, the radar system provides situational awareness, near-instantaneous track updates, and multi-target tracking capabilities.
