American aircraft manufacturer Cleo Robotics has announced the commercial availability of its state-of-the-art Dronut X1 drone designed for unmanned surveillance in GPS-denied environments.

Described as the world’s first bi-rotor ducted drone, the Dronut X1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon and uses light detection and ranging technology for obstacle detection. It also features a sensor suite built for image and data collection.

The small-sized Dronut X1 also has completely enclosed propellers, allowing it to safely bounce off objects during operations conducted in confined spaces where no other drones or robotic vehicles can go.

Weighing only 425 grams (0.9 pounds), the drone features a 4K camera, advanced algorithms, LED headlights, and a global shutter camera for precise positioning. It can also be remotely controlled via Android phone.

The donut-lookalike includes a rechargeable battery that allows a flight time of up to 12 minutes and takes 40 minutes to fully recharge.

Removing Risk to Human Safety

According to Cleo Robotics founder and chief executive Omar Eleryan, the Dronut X1 offers solutions to problems people think are “unsolvable.” He explained that the company rigorously engineered and tested the model before announcing availability for commercial and military purposes.

“We are excited to see the impact that the Dronut X1 will have on the industries that it is designed to serve,” he stated. “The Dronut X1 is the solution that removes the need to risk humans’ safety on the job.”
