Russia’s Rosoboronexport director general Alexander Mikheyev has affirmed the country’s readiness to supply the armed forces of Peru with new combat aircraft should it make a formal request.

According to the official, Russia could provide Peru with as many Mil-171Sh helicopters as needed to effectively carry out military tasks. It is also willing to train Peruvian specialists in operating the craft.

Moscow is also reportedly willing to help upgrade Peru’s existing warplanes. The Latin American nation employs multirole Mikoyan MiG-29 fighters, Sukhoi Su-25 jets, and Mil Mi-171Sh-P military transport helicopters.

Mikheyev said his country’s offer to its South American ally aims to further develop cooperation with the Peruvian military and law enforcement agencies.

“Rosoboronexport highly appreciates the level of military-technical cooperation between Russia and Peru,” Rosoboronexport director general Alexander Mikheyev said, adding that the country has been a long-standing and reliable partner, operating Russian aircraft and helicopters, armored vehicles, and anti-tank systems.

‘Exhibiting Russian Armaments’

Rosoboronexport is set to exhibit roughly 300 of the country’s state-of-the-art military weapons and equipment at an international ground, air, naval, and security defense fair in Peru.

The state arms exporter will showcase scale models of the Yak-130 combat training aircraft, BTR-82A armored personnel carrier, Mi-28NE attack helicopter, and Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile system.

The company will allow international participants to view its “broad range” of air defense and electronic warfare weapons, including Antey-4000 anti-aircraft missile systems, S-400 Triumf and Tor-M2KM surface-to-air missile launchers.

To feature the capabilities of Russia’s cutting-edge fighters, Rosoboronexport will provide complete specifications about the Su-35 and the Su-30SME. It will also share promotional materials about the Orlan-10E unmanned aircraft system.
