The US Army’s annual Saber Junction 21 exercise officially kicked off with live-fire artillery on Thursday and will run until September 24.

This year’s edition of the joint training is being held at the 7ATC’s Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels Training Areas in southern Germany.

Exercise control group director Lt. Col. Kevin Ryan explained that one of the main goals of the training is “preparing for any contingency and improving relations with allied nations and partners.”

“Joint training exercises continue to strengthen the alliance and partnership,” Ryan said. “It facilitates training, tactics, and procedures across multinational militaries.”
