Harper Construction has been awarded a $101 million contract by the United States Department of Defense to design and construct an F-35C hangar addition at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California.

Construction is expected to begin soon, with a projected finish date of March 2024.

The contract specifies building “an aircraft parking apron and marshaling area, access apron and shoulders, taxiway connections and associated lighting, and an alternate mission equipment storage facility.”

Reinforced concrete masonry units, structural steel frames, a metal deck, and a pile foundation will be used to construct the facility.

F-35 Hangars

Harper Construction has built hangars for F-35s in the past. In September 2020, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar received a new fleet of F-35 fighters, and to accommodate the additional aerial power, Harper was contracted to build the hangar.

The F-35 system, developed by Lockheed Martin, has been in service within the US Air Force for more than a decade. Aside from the US, several other countries also operate fleets of F-35 fighters including Japan, Turkey, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
