Swedish defense firm Saab will be exhibiting its next-generation Combat Boat 90 (CB90) at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2021 on September 14-17 in London.

The company revealed in a press release that the event will mark the first time that the fast assault craft would be showcased outside of Sweden. During the biennial exhibition, guests will have the opportunity to go aboard the vessel and learn about its capabilities.

According to an official of Saab business unit Docksta, the CB90 upgrade was influenced by the feedback of clients who have been using the original version of the craft for more than three decades. He also said that the next generation of the vehicle is now “ready to take on multiple roles.”

Saab will exhibit the next generation CB90 as part of the DSEI waterborne demonstrations conducted twice a day. It will be docked in the marina section for easy viewing.

About the Next Generation CB90

First commissioned in 1991, the CB90 is designed to transport troops swiftly. Soldiers can come ashore and depart again quickly, even on uneven, elevated, and rocky shores.

The vehicle is also equipped with various sensors, ballistic protection, and a new combat management system. The latest version features improved stealth, maneuverability, and speed.

In addition to being a fast assault craft, the CB90 can function as a coastal defense boat, a patrol boat, or special operations support vessel. Militaries can also utilize the craft for reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence-gathering.

The lightweight, Swedish-made craft can accommodate 21 fully armed soldiers and a load of up to 4.5 tons (4,082 kilograms) of cargo. Its drop bow system allows for rapid deployment of soldiers and quick extraction of casualties.

At present, more than 250 CB90s are in use by naval forces around the world.
