US Army Awards Boeing $487M Engineering Contract for Apache AH-64
Boeing has been awarded a $487 million contract by the US Army Contracting Command over at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama to provide engineering services and technical support for its Apache AH-64 aircraft.
Importance of the AH-64 Apache
The AH-64 Apache plays a central role in the US military. The aircraft is also a major part of foreign military sales to allied countries.
The system has had numerous iterations, with the military regularly investing in improvements to the attack helicopter. Just this month, RE2 Robotics was awarded a contract to develop an autonomous refueling system for the AH-64, making refueling an unmanned process and reducing the need for manpower.
Fleets of the AH-64 system that are in service in foreign allied countries are also supported by the US. In December 2019, the US Army gave Boeing a $1.4 billion support services contract for foreign Apache fleets. This improvement project is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.
