Panasonic recently unveiled its new TOUGHBOOK G2 rugged 2-in-1 tablet with a detachable keyboard for military, aerospace, and industrial applications.
Described by Panasonic as a tablet that can handle the “toughest, mission-critical jobs and assignments,” the TOUGHBOOK G2 features a modular design with the capability to handle user-removable expansion packs called xPAKs that can be attached and detached to the main tablet providing accessories for field use.

These accessories include a serial port, a thermal camera, a barcode reader, and a quick-release external SSD storage. This gives the device flexibility when it comes to field use, as it can adapt to the different demands a mission or field deployment may require of it.

The TOUGHBOOK G2 features a 10.1-inch display and is powered by an Intel Core i5 or i7 vPro processor. It has 16 to 32GB of RAM with up to 1TB of SSD capacity. The battery can last up to 18.5 hours on a single charge. The device runs on Windows 10.
The TOUGHBOOK series is preferred for military use, and devices like the TOUGHBOOK 55, N1 Tactical Variant, and the TOUGHBOOK 20 have all been utilized by service personnel in combat deployment and field exercises.
In 2019, the US Marine Corps ordered 6,800 units in a deal worth $27.7 million.
