Russia’s state arms seller, Rosoboronexport, has put a range of counter-drone systems on display at the IDEX 2021 international arms show in the United Arab Emirates.

Perhaps the most important is the Repellent-Patrol electronic warfare system, which the company claims is capable of intercepting and jamming the electronic signals of incoming unmanned aerial systems (UAS) from a range of up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles).

Countering Drone Swarms

Additional Russian counter-UAS systems on display at the exhibition include the Kupol and Rubezh-Avtomatika, developed by Avtomatika Concern, another subsidiary of Rostec State Corporation like Rosoboronexport.

Rosoboronexport claims that the highly mobile, easily deployed systems can create “an impenetrable barrier capable of repelling attacks not only by single drones but also their massive use from different directions and altitudes within a radius of at least 3 km.”

Next in line is the Pishchal electromagnetic gun, weighing a mere 3.5 kilograms (7.7 pounds), and reputedly capable of jamming UAV electronics from a range of two kilometers (1.2 miles).

Pantsyr-S1M Anti-Aircraft System Also on Display

The state-run defense manufacturer is also showcasing its short-range air defense systems, including the Pantsyr-S1M anti-aircraft missile system and the Tor surface-to-air missile system, at the exhibition.

The company claims that the Pantsyr can destroy air targets, including drones, flying at a range of up to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) and at an altitude of up to 18 kilometers (11 miles).

Rosoboronexport also offers the Verba or Igla-S man-portable air defense system, as a last line of defense, capable of destroying flying targets at a range of up to 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) and an altitude of up to 3.5 km (2 miles).
