A Russian Antonov-26 transport plane crashed at Hmeimim air base in Syria on Tuesday, killing 32 people on board, the Russian Ministry of Defence said.

“Around 15:00 (Moscow time), a Russian An-26 transport aircraft has crashed while coming in for landing at the Hmeymim airbase,” Tass news agency reported the statement as saying.

All 32 people on the plane were killed, according to the ministry.

Tass reported that a technical fault may be to blame.

The twin-engine aircraft, first produced in 1969, has seen a number of accidents in its history.
