Iran’s defense ministry announced Monday that it has begun mass production of the indigenously-produced Mohajer-6 tactical and combat unmanned aerial vehicle.

In a ceremony in Tehran attended by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Ground Force commander Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami inaugurated the production line for the Mohajer-6 tactical UCAV, Mehr news agency reported.

Hatami said the drone “has the capability to carry out surveillance and reconnaissance missions, a wide operational range and wingspan with a high precision,” according to the reports.

Mohajer drones were developed in the 1980s and were primarily used for surveillance and reconnaissance. The larger sixth variant, unveiled last April, carries Qaem precision-guided anti-aircraft missiles and other warheads capable of destroying fixed and moving targets, Hatami said.
