Coalition strikes destroy ISIS positions in Raqqa and continue near Syria-Iraq border

U.S.-led Coalition strikes against ISIS in Syria destroyed two communications nodes and 10 fighting positions in Raqqa, and continued on both sides of the Iraq/Syria border on Thursday, October 12, Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.

“Near Ar Raqqah, 25 strikes engaged nine ISIS tactical units, suppressed one fighting position, destroyed two communications nodes, 10 fighting positions, one vehicle and one ISIS supply road.,” the release said on Friday.

In Syria, Coalition forces conducted 27 strikes consisting of 27 engagements:

  • Near Abu Kamal, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed one vehicle.
  • Near Ar Raqqah, 25 strikes engaged nine ISIS tactical units, suppressed one fighting position, destroyed two communications nodes, 10 fighting positions, one vehicle and one ISIS supply road.
  • Near Dayr Az Zawr, one strike engaged one ISIS tactical unit.

Coalition forces conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements in Iraq:

  • Near Al Qaim, one strike destroyed a VBIED factory.
  • Near Haditha, one strike engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed a vehicle and a heavy machine gun.

Additionally, 12 strikes consisting of 13 engagements were conducted in Syria and Iraq on October 10-11 that closed within the last 24 hours.

  • On October 11 near Ar Raqqah, Syria, eight strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed four ISIS communication lines, two communications nodes and a fighting position.
  • On October 11 near Rawah, Iraq, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and an ISIS-held building.
  • On October 10 near Rawah, Iraq, two strikes destroying four ISIS supply routes, a command and control node and an ISIS-held building.

The U.S.-led Coalition of more than 70 members has been conducting airstrikes, ground-based and rocket-propelled artillery fire against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq since 2014.
