Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense signed deals with Russian authorities on Thursday to purchase S-400 missile defense systems and other weapons, including the Kornet-EM anti tank guided missile system, the TOS-1A unguided thermobaric rocket system, the AGS-30 automatic grenade launcher and Kalashnikov AK-103 assault rifles.
The Russian daily Kommersant reported on Thursday that the defense package is worth $3 billion.
Moscow and Riyadh signed a total of 14 documents after talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi King Salman Ben Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a press conference that Moscow wants to enhance cooperation with Saudi Arabia in the areas of space and nuclear energy.
Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, said Riyadh intends to intensify its work with Russia on combatting terrorism and extremism.
