Coalition strikes destroy ISIS positions near Raqqa and Kirkuk – CJTF-OIR

U.S.-led Coalition strikes in Iraq destroyed Islamic State fighting positions near Raqqa in Syria and the Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Monday, Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.

“Near Raqqah, six strikes engaged three ISIS tactical units and destroyed three fighting positions and three ISIS supply routes,” the release said on Tuesday.

One strike near Kirkuk also destroyed an ISIS fighting position.

Coalition forces conducted a total of four strikes consisting of four engagements in Iraq. The other strikes included:

  • Near Al Qaim, two strikes destroyed an ISIS headquarters and a weapons cache.
  • Near Bayji, one strike destroyed an ISIS tunnel and a vehicle.

In Syria, the Coalition carried out 10 strikes consisting of 10 engagements against ISIS. In addition to the Raqqa strikes:

  • Near Abu Kamal, two strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed two vehicles.
  • Near Dayr Az Zawr [Deir Ezzor], two strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed a vehicle.

The U.S.-led Coalition of more than 70 members has been conducting airstrikes, ground-based and rocket-propelled artillery fire against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq since 2014.
